FCC Announces Recommendations to Protect Florida’s Springs and Significant Water Resources

The Florida Conservation Coalition (FCC) is pleased to provide our Recommendations to Protect Florida’s Springs and Significant Water Resources, a copy of which is available here at the FCC’s website. This report, spearheaded by FCC Chairman Senator Bob Graham (ret.) and Vice-Chairman Seminole County Commissioner Lee Constantine, will serve as the FCC’s policy on matters regarding springs and water resources and will be useful in proposing and addressing legislation and other actions.  Importantly, it should also be helpful to the public and public officials in gaining a better understanding of the vital role of springs and water in sustaining Florida’s environment and economy.

  • Total Maximum Daily Load & Basin Management Action Plan Implementation and Enforcement
  • Reduce Septic Tank Pollution
  •  Reduce Fertilizer Pollution
  • Connect Water Quality and Water Quantity Regulations
  • Update Water Management District Rainfall and Recharge Modeling
  • Delineation of Springsheds by Rulemaking
  • Standards for Groundwater Discharges
  • Improve Effectiveness, Enforcement, and Funding of Agricultural Best Management Practices
  • Annual Report on Water Quality and Flow and Level Conditions of Springs and Water Resources
  • Land Conservation to Protect Water Resources
  • Water Management District Governing Board Selection

Funding Options

  • Modest Increases in Water Management District Ad Valorem Taxes
  • Direct State Revolving Fund Towards Priority Springs and Water Bodies
  • Restore Florida Forever Funding
